How do different compensation packages amongst individuals within the same organization performing similar functions affect overall organizational performance? Summary Within the Fire Services, there are people who are hired on the “Old Term” and people hired on “New Term”. Whilst they are paid according to the same pay scale, they have significantly different fringe benefits. Despite the differences, they are essentially doing the same job. The goal of this dissertation is to explore how these different compensation packages affect individual performance and consequently organisational performance. Background information on the Fire Services - It is a Government organisation operated on public funding. - It has no other “market competitors” - It specialises in providing emergency firefighting and rescue service to the general public. - Its main mission is to protect life and properties in case of fire and other calamities - It also carries out fire protection duties and gives fire safety advice to the public Background information on employees within the Fire Service - All employees are employed by the government - Old Term and New Term employees are paid based on a pay scale - Individual salary will increase by one salary point every year, until they reach the ceiling of the scale, at which point the will remained to be paid at the maximum salary point until they finally gain a promotion. - The following table shows a list of the differences in fringe benefits - Direction of study - The performance of the fire service can be assessed based on their response time to the following, the number of fire protection matters dealt with, efficiency in dealing with such matter. A major indicator is the quality of service provided i.e. their efficiency at the emergency, the techniques deployed. - I have conducted survey and questionnaires with employees and based on several performance identifiers - Job Satisfaction & Job commitment – employee with high job satisfaction is more likely to perform well - Job commitment -
