Do not include sources in your Annotated Bibliography that you do not understand or that do not clearly answer your research question. If asked, you should be able to articulate the argument of the source, and be able to state directly what each one contributes to your understanding of the topic. Once you have 5 sources that clearly work to answer your question, begin the writing process by writing and organizing MLA citations for each of the sources. THEN, write your summary/annotations of each source.
The format of an annotated bibliography is especially important, since the document is NOT AN ESSAY. Each entry consists of full MLA citations for each source organized alphabetically by author, and then a paragraph summary of each that first summarizes the content and argument of the source, and then comments on the value of the source for your project. These summary/annotation paragraphs should be about a ½ page long.
In other words, the summary/annotation follows this pattern:

What argument or claim is the source making and discussing?
What does it add to your understanding of the topic?
How does it fit in the conversation with your other sources? (This part of the summary is very important and MUST be included).
