Prison overcrowding is a serious problem that's rapidly growing in the USA. Since the 19th Century it has been plaguing the criminal justice system and has rolled over to our contemporary prison system. Overcrowding is more complicated than what people see on the outside looking in. There are multiple reasons that promote the increase population of offenders. Throughout time, there has been an ongoing debate on what the causes are and how they may be made better. Since the early decades, prison populations have been rising at an enormous speed. There are numerous causes and little is being done about it. Some of the causes would be the growth rate of previous criminals coming after being published, more criminal offenses are being added into the penal code, вЂњwar on drugsвЂќ, вЂњtruth from sentencingвЂќ, harsher penalties and there is a change from Legislation being siphoned into determinate. These are only a couple of examples that are contaminating our system now. Overcrowding is becoming a problem since it does not just put strain on the inmates, it put pressure on the employees as well. For placing all these strains on the prison system, it starts to form a domino effect. Since the population is rising, it's with a direct connection with the resources which are being available to the offenders. Less resources are able to go about and are getting stretched thin, more space has been occupied and offenders may get hostile.
