Ideas for making the 6th grade book report

  • Make up models of a few of your favorite main characters from the assigned piece of literature. Then, create clothes for them as you imagine they could look in a real life. And, play your favorite scene from the book with the help of real-size models.
  • Make a real-sized sculpture of the book hero by means of wood, soap, sticks, paper, stones, clay, pieces of old unnecessary toys (not favorite toys of your little sister or brother) or some other material. And show whether this character fits or not into the assigned book.
  • Pretend to be a journalist who takes an interview from one of the characters. You may ask your friend or a classmate to play the role of one of the characters from the book or even the author of the book and have a conversation like you take an interview.
  • Write a speech and prepare for an oral report. You may describe the assigned piece of literature from a critical point of view, or just make a brief summary. Remember that your oral report should not last longer than five minutes.
  • Pick one of the scenes from the book and write a scenario and build a little stage. By means of these, you can feel yourself in a role of a producer and your classroom will be a theatre stage.
  • Write a letter to the author of the book. Think thoroughly of what questions you may have regarding the plot of the book, maybe there is something that you cannot understand or maybe you want to suggest an alternative solution for one of the situations described in the assigned book. Imagine like you can talk to one of the characters from the book and write a direct letter to him. Pay attention that your letter has to be rather interesting, maybe even controversial. Your task here is to make it interesting for your audience.
  • If you have enough time and desire (what is even more important), you may want to read another book of the same author and compare the assigned piece of literature with it.
  • Make a poster. This is quite a constructive assignment, although you can do it if you feel inspired. Again, you are welcome to make it bright and controversial, so that it could provoke a discussion regarding this or that issue raised in the book or presented in your poster.
  • If you are a musician, you can write and perform your original song in front of your audience. This is a very good way to complete the given task, and your professor will definitely evaluate it appropriately. The 6th grade book report may be your chance to show what talents you have.
  • Make a whole newspaper about the book. Find interesting facts regarding the story of the circumstances in which the author wrote the assigned piece of literature, provide one page with a critical review of the book and one page for making an advertisement for it.
  • As a matter of fact, you can make your work in the form of a real advertisement. Try to think as a PR manager and make your audience want to read this book.
  • Pretend to be one of the heroes from the story. Here, you can make a monologue that would be a reflection of the inner life of the character. Explain why he acted that or another way and describe his feelings and thoughts.
  • You may also want to re-write the story like what would happen if the circumstances turn that that or another way.
  • Maybe you would like to add one more character to the plot of the assigned piece of literature? What would be the consequences of such occurrence? Think of it and remember that you are free to play with the plot without any barriers.
  • And, finally, you may want to imagine yourself in the role of a television or radio reporter, who is giving the report of a piece of scene from the book like it is happening right away.
  • You can write any part of the plot in your own way. If there is something that you did not like, make it different! If you don't agree with the author's idea in regard to a piece of plot, go ahead and re-write it the way you think it should be. The 6th grade book report allows you to let your imagination free.
  • Try to think about what you learned from this book. Was it useful for you? Was it instructive? Does it have the moral? If yes, what is it? How the humanity can benefit from the book? Is it acceptable to consider it to be a piece of art? Or look from the other side. If you learned nothing from it, then you may explain why this book was so senseless and why you do not recommend reading it.
  • Make notes with quotations while reading the book. This should be the most impressive parts of the book for you that inspired you or made you laugh, cry, angry. In other words, this should be a list of the brightest (from your personal point of view) quotations you want to share with your audience.
